Precautions

Precautions:

There are very few precautions that one has to take when applying Bt. Because it is organic,

it does not harm animals or the environment. It does not require the full protective suits, gloves, or

gas masks that normal pesticides do. The best and most effective way of applying Bt on fields of crops is

through sprayers.

Toxicity:

Scientists have performed extensive Bt testing on rats and mice. All of these studies have shown that when the test animals inhaled

or ingested Bt, the only side effect was mild irritation. None of the animals died.

Tests on humans were also conducted. In one study, eighteen volunteers ingested a Bt

pesticide for five consecutive days. There was no effect of any kind on any of them. Another study included eight

men who were exposed to the pesticide while it was being manufactured. Similarly, the pesticide had no

ill effects on any of them.
